    Registration and 24-hour Access

The facilities and services at the Research Graduate Centre are available to all currently enrolled Monash research students.

Anyone who wishes to use the Centre must complete a Centre Registration Form (24-hr access) rtf (71 kb) or pdf (34 kb) and the application must be approved by the Centre Supervisor.

    After-hours Swipe Card Access

The Centre's entry and exit doors operate automatically between 8:30am and 5:30 pm.

Students must have a current student card to gain access/exit the building outside of this period. The card is swiped through the infra-red high density security bar reader right to left and the user then keys in his/her PIN number followed by # (for ENTER) at the main entrance. The card readers are located at the internal and external sides of the north entrance; students entering and leaving are recorded on a computer at Security and Traffic. Video surveillance also operates.

Remember that entry and exit after-hours is only through the automatic door on the ground floor level at the north side of the building. An alarm will sound if the basement level doors are used to exit after hours.

We would ask that you use your swipe card responsibly at all times, for your safety and the safety of your fellow students. All users have the right to feel safe and secure in the Centre.

    Safety and Security

    Emergency Exits

The ground floor automatic door is fitted with an emergency (exit) button. This green button is located adjacent to the card reader. The doors on the lower ground level are to be used in the event of an emergency only. Should occupants attempt to exit the building via these doors during after-hours periods, an alarm will sound. Sirens are mounted adjacent to the door, with an alarm conveyed to Security and Traffic.

    Video Surveillance

The Research Graduate Centre is monitored around the clock by video surveillance cameras.

    Emergency Telephones

Emergency telephones are located on each floor on the corridor wall near the stairwell and give automatic access to Security and Traffic. Dial 333 in any emergency. Personnel there are able to contact emergency services such as fire and ambulance.

Emergency evacuation procedures are displayed in the Centre.

    Student Office Space

Postgraduate research students (PhD and Masters by research students) based at the Clayton campus are eligible to apply for office space within the Centre.

Students wanting office space at the Centre must complete and submitt the Application for Office Space form rtf (86 kb) or pdf (31 kb).

Please read the Student Office Allocation Policy.

    Some Reminders

To help ensure that the Centre is a pleasant place to study, please:

    • keep the kitchens gleaming!

    Smoking

As with all university buildings, the non-smoking rule must be respected at all times. Smoking outside the building in the vicinity of exits is also prohibited under the university's occupational health and safety code.

Smoke detectors operate throughout the building.
